Description

Ready Mix Concrete Driver

A. Job Identification

Deliver ready mix concrete and other associated products to construction job sites within our production areas. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient delivery of ready mix concrete, and driver may be called upon to work as business and weather conditions warrant.

B. Essential Job Functions

  • Perform Pre-Trip inspection of the truck in accordance with D.O.T regulations, including fluids such as oil and antifreeze.
  • Maneuver truck in a safe manner while at plant through all sequences of the concrete loading cycle.
  • Receive delivery ticket.
  • Add various ingredients such as fiber, admixtures, and other products as directed.
  • Check slumps and mix of concrete.
  • Drive truck in safe manner to jobs arriving with desired slump and/or extra products.
  • Back up or pull into jobsites, must be able to maneuver truck in uneven and poor terrain.
  • Place chutes from fender to main chute on front of truck.
  • Unload concrete in courteous manner.
  • Have delivery ticket signed and assure all information required is written down, and to collect cash or checks on C.O.D. job sites.
  • Wash truck down after unloading in designated area per contractor.
  • Exterior and interior of truck must also be maintained in a clean manner.
  • Never discredit a customer in the field or on the radio.
  • Communicate well with dispatcher throughout the delivery process.
  • Refuel truck as needed and every evening and perform all post inspection procedures.

C. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be able to do simple math, such as addition and subtraction.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A or B CDL license issued by the state of Georgia.
  • Must be able to pass a Federal Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screening and physical.
  • Must maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy.
  • Must be able to deal with management, co-workers, and customers in a diplomatic, manner in varied stressful situations.
  • Must be able to operate vehicle and perform tasks in a safe manner and observe all safety requirements and policies.

D. Physical Demands

  • This is moderately strenuous work. The driver must climb in and out of truck approximately 50 times per day. The bottom of the seat is approximately 50 inches from the ground. The first step is two feet off the ground, with the second step one foot higher. A bar or handle is provided to help the driver pull himself into the cab.
  • Each truck is equipped with levers and pedals which are used to control the many parts of the truck while driving and during the process of unloading concrete. The driver must have coordination between hands and feet to accomplish these procedures. This could average over 100 times a day.
  • The driver must also climb a ladder at the front of the truck approximately 13 feet high. This ladder is not only used to check the concrete, but to carry products, weighing up to 90 pounds, that are to be added to load.
  • Drivers must pull down the main chute on the truck and attach up to four more chutes at every job. It takes approximately 60 pounds of force to pull the main chute down. Additional chutes are stored on the truck fender with straps that take approximately 45 pounds of pressure to release the strap. The additional chutes weigh approximately 60 pounds each and take approximately 60 pounds of lift to lift the chute. Each chute must be lifted from ground to shoulder when returning the chute to its beginning position.
  • Drivers must wash and clean their trucks with brushes and a hose. This requires a fair amount of climbing on the truck.

E. Environmental Conditions

  • Drivers work outdoors the majority of the time. Weather conditions such as temperature, moisture and other conditions have a significant impact on the job. Therefore, drivers must tolerate, with or without reasonable accommodations, being exposed frequently to extreme weather conditions.
  • Jobsites vary greatly due to weather and location conditions. The ground is usually rough, muddy or icy. The driver must be able to tolerate varied work conditions.
  • There are high noise levels and significant vibration associated with this position. This may be caused by the truck, construction equipment and jobsite noise. The driver must be able to tolerate, with or without reasonable accommodation, intermittent exposure to noise, vibration and other aggravation conditions at or around the operating sites.
  • There are other physical hazards that endanger life, health or bodily injury, such as proximity to moving, mechanical parts, falls, environmental conditions, moving equipment and other hazards.
  • There is also exposure to cement, lime, concrete admixtures, dust, diesel fuel and other substances which may be toxic, cause burns or be explosive.
